Baba Agyei was my teacher throughout most of my childhood. He helped shape a large part of my political ideology and worldview. He would pull me to the side and drop bits of wisdom on me. He gave me so many proverbs, quotes and stories that I will NEVER forget. To be honest I’m just now understanding some of them. When I went through my rite of passage at 14 I distinctly remember advice he gave us about fatherhood. I didn’t understand it then but more than a decade later those words held value. It’s almost like Baba Agyei existed outside of time and had way of looking at you and seeing your future. When I was in college he would say to me “Aiight…you’ve had your fun…is it time yet?”. He would also say “The real joy in life will come from watching your children and grandchildren play in front of you”. As an adult I enjoyed priceless moments sitting under a tree listening to Baba empart wisdom about manhood, fatherhood, husbandhood, nation building etc. I remember watching Baba Agyei walk through the forest talking to each tree before he took a few leaves and thinking to myself “One day I’ll get to that level”. I don’t want to ramble but it’s hard to fit 20+ years of lessons into one post. We love you dearly Baba Agyei and appreciate everything you have given us!!
